TS is more PvE

Vent is the favored VoiP of PvP, mainly due to the better quality and less lag

welcome. first off, for pvp your gonna eventually WANT all 3 campaigns and the expansion. if your only going to buy 1 game this weekend, I would get NIGHTFALL. nighfall has many of the pvp elites and skills used regualrly today and you can do pretty well for yourself. if your ONLY interested in pvp, than buy the pvp unlock packs. it will help you ALOT. unlocking all the skills takes a while and untill you get them, you'll be forced to just sit in random arenas all day long.

pvp prizes, well in-game prizes are variable. you can use the FACTION you get for killing someone to buy skills/weapon mods and such. Or, you can use it to buy a key that opens up a chest that can drop a rare weapon or tonic, although it also drops complete crap. Also, if you win the hall of heroes which is a pvp arena located in the Heroes Ascent you get to open the chest and get a prize + a key to open the chest from earlier. Depending on how many times you win halls depends how long you get to keep opening the chest.

real life prizes... they USED to be really nice. money, big wide screen monitors and such. but now they are toned down because all the focus is on guildwars2.

I'd say the first thing you should do is get a guild that is ready to help you learn the ropes. You can find good guilds here on guru in the guild forums. Never join a guild you see advertising in a town, you will be waisting your time.

When you do first start, start with pve. Try not to get help from anyone in the training areas, do as many quests as you can and read the tips npc's give you.

If you start in either the factions or nightfall campaign then make sure you take henchmen with you. Unlike wow you need at least one healer in your group to survive. Guild Wars has a much faster pace and as such character buffs usually last between 5-20 seconds as opposed to minutes like in other games.

Healing classes take more skill than in other games so its best to play a non healing role first. Mesmer also happens to be a difficult class to start with. Good choices are warriors, rangers, ele's and necro's.

If you decide to buy nightfall then don't rely too much on heroes to start with. You will see people always reccomending taking heroes instead of henchmen because you choose heroes skills and hench have a static skillset.
This is actually a bad thing for new players though as you won't know what a good skillbar is for a profession you havn't played, also you will not have many skills available to give your heroes early on.

I find GW very similar to Diablo, both are filled with awesomeness. I have a question- I only have Prophecies. Will I be able to unlock elite skills for my char or do I really need to get Nightfall?

Do you assume that there are only Elite Skills in Nightfall? Or, do you want the Elite Skills from Nightfall?

If it's the first, you are wrong (a bit blunt, sorry), there are Elite Skills in each campaign. In Prophecies you can start capturing Elites in the Crystal Desert from certain bosses.

If it's the second, then you will need Nightfall to have Nightfall skills (such as Light of Deliverance or Jagged Bones).

Go Here or Here for your searching needs.

Hope this helps.

Reaching level 20 can be slow but can also be very fast. I mean, my first character took it over 4 months, my last one only 5 days. Probably because of the exploring. In prophecies, it is slow, just as the levels the enemies have in the different regions. In Factions and Nightfall, it goes very fast indeed, Factions' quests giving very high experience rewards and NF quests as well. In EotN it also goes like rain for the high level mobs you can easily slay. The best pvp profession can be a bit different. Monks are great healers and therefore very handy. Elementalists can do an awesome lot of AoE damage. Assassins can strike fast and hard. And so on. Every profession is needed.
I don't know WoW very well. But in GW you get your own private copy of a world, or explorable area. You can meet up with other players in Towns, Outposts etc. in different 'Districts'. Europe has its own, America has its own and Asia has its own. Besides that there are the international districts.

If you played a shaman, btw, give the ritualist a try, too. Instead of totems you get spirits, and ritualists are pretty versatile as well.

Skills you unlock on your account are available to all PvP characters, with the exception of PvE skills (Necrosis, 'There's Nothing to Fear' etc.), also if you have heroes, they can use your unlocked skills as well.

(You can unlock skills using Balthazar faction, but to get these in PvE you'd need to use a Tome (normal or Elite) to access them or buy them from a skill trainer - that is, for your PvE character, not their heroes).

Nightfall, Factions and Prophecies are essentially stand-alone. You can buy any of them and play (PvE) quite easily, later you can buy another and join it to your account.

Say you get Prophecies and two weeks later buy Nightfall, you can add Nightfall to your existing account and can travel to the game with your existing character(s). This will allow you to get Nightfall skills for your Prophecies character, they unlock just as Proph. skills do so you can use them in PvP as well.

The reverse is true, you can make an Elonian (Nightfall) character and take them to Phrophecies.

The only true expansion is GW:EN, as that requires one of the above three to be usable.

PvP, by definition, is with other players.

Party size varies according to type 4v4 to 12v12, I believe. Guild Wars is a team game, so 1v1's don't pop up often, except with very specific builds.

I don't know much about PvP though.

Another question from my archives! I hear people say.. You need this build for this area and so on, Are there specific builds for specific farming spots/pvp?

What should i be? A ele/mes? or ele/Monk?

Many farming spots are much easier if you use a specific build. As for PvP, it's team based. The build you run in PvP will need to be a benefit to the whole team, so you may find yourself running something more specific in that situation, depending on the role you need to fill in the team. You'll usually have time to discuss builds with your team before you enter the arena to start the battle, and whether there are any skills that you should or shouldn't include in your build.

Both combinations have advantages. Taking Mesmer as a secondary profession will let you use the Mesmer's incredible energy management skills, as well as a few other skills that allow you to temporarily make a second copy of a skill that's already on your bar. This technique is known as echoing or echo chaining, and can let you fire off the same (powerful) spell several times in a row without having to wait for the usual recharge times. If your primary focus is going to be inflicting as much pain on enemies as possible in as little time as possible, this is extremely useful.

Taking Monk as a secondary profession will allow you to use the Monk's powerful healing and protection spells (much more powerful than those available to the Elemantalist), as well as the option of a reusable resurrection skill to revive fallen allies (the standard resurrection signet can only be recharged if you kill a boss). There's also the option of using the Monk's smiting spells to deal large amounts of armor-ignoring holy damage, using your Elementalist-sized energy pool to keep casting for longer (useful against undead enemies).

Every profession combination has its own advantages, but if you decide that you really don't like your secondary profession you will have the option to change it when you reach a certain point in the game.
